In urban pop culture, the word bourgeoisie is shortened to “bougie” which refers to the middle-class in Europe, but refers to a more affluent class level in the United States. The word/characteristic is often applied to people who exhibit arrogant, cocky, and snobbish traits (stunnas, divas, the “Kids” & the likes that “front” like they got “IT” goin’ on and really don’t) The flip side describes those who really have “IT” and they constantly remind everyone with their condescending actions. There is such a negative connotation associated with the word that I became offended when people said I was bougie. However, on my journey towards TOTAL LIFE PROSPERITY, I am beginning to embrace the term as a compliment.
One who presents themselves at their very best at all times and does so effortlessly. I’m so sick of the word swag so I’ll replace having swag with personal style. “Bougie” people prefer the finer things in life. Everything from their wardrobe, friends, cars, and homes to the social events they attend are top notch. It’s not about having the most expensive things but it is about having the best things that life has to offer. In doing so they don’t look down on others, neither do they put themselves on a pedestal
According to my definition I am definitely BOUGIE! And I LOVE IT!!!! Keep callin me bougie!

signed “QUEEN OF BOUGIE”
Of all things, I take being called bougie so personal. It really offends me because I feel like if a person thinks I’m bougie, they have no idea who I am or what I’ve been through. But I realized if I can come from where I came from and still be perceived as bougie, then I should embrace it!
Agreed! Being called “bougie” or characterized by a complete stranger gives you more insight about the person saying it and their thought process rather than it being a true reflection of your personality. OH shout out to Pagedale!!!! LOL
I define “BOUGIE” differently I guess. To me, to be “bougie” is to be fake. I always looked at being “bougie” as some1 who has risen above where they once were and now turn their nose up to those who haven’t. Or they may still be in that place and just pretend not to be when certain kinds of people are around.
Point being; never forget who u are, who u were, or where you come from….
Side note! There are some people who do deserve an upward nose…. shout out 2 flavor flav!!! Lol..from public enemy to flavor of love..in the words of Laurence Fishburnes character in school dayz…WAAAAAKKKKEEEE UUPPPPPPP!!!

I love this! I’ve been called a Bougie Princess or Bougie Queen! And it’s usually based upon some superficial stereotype, when in essence I really don’t base my personal satisfaction on material items (or my outer appearance)….Real Talk!
