Guest Blogger: Fashion #FAILS

untitledFashion #FAILS

In my spare time, I take to the Internet to look at club photos throughout St. Louis.  Unfortunately, I am never able to get through the whole album due to fashion #fails!  Now I am not sure what it is with St. Louis women and fashion but we need to do better.  I don’t generally run into this problem when I go out in other cities or look at pictures.  WAIT…STOP!  Now let’s be clear, I don’t consider myself a fashion guru by any means but I do feel that I have a gift, which is my fashion eye.  I’ve always been great at styling other people, researching their body types, and putting things together that are an ideal fit for them. So when I see a fashion fail I get so confused.  It’s like, did no one else see you before you left the house?  I find that hard to believe!  Whenever a girl gets dressed to go out, there is always one person that they run their look by, whether it’s their mom, friend, boyfriend, or husband.  So what is the issue?

I pride myself on being honest with my friends/family especially when it comes to fashion.  If something doesn’t look good, I say so.  If the look is HOT, I say so.  I’ve come to the conclusion that most people lie to others about fashion for one of three reasons:

A. Because they don’t want to hurt others feelings

B. Because they don’t want others to be upset with them.

C. Because they don’t want it to seem like they are “HATING”!

C is definitely the most common reason.  For some reason in our society, if someone doesn’t agree with an idea or behavior it’s automatically categorized as hating.  Well I say bump that!  Let’s get our HATE on my fellow Total Life Prosperity family!  I figure we still have time to save them before Christmas!

Case #1: The form-fitting mini dress

This look can definitely be tastefully done.  In order to succeed at wearing such a look, the lady needs to be proportioned.  Women who have nice waist lines (they don’t necessarily have to be tiny) and a well proportioned rack and butt, I say go for it!!  The problems I’ve been seeing with this look are, there are a lot of women with not so flat tummies trying to rock the form-fitting mini dress.   If you so choose to girdle up, then do so by all means but please wear the correct support so that your viewers are not left seeing girdle lines through your dress.  I also see a lot big breast women going for this look.  Nothing wrong with big breast but if you don’t have something in the back to balance it out, let it go.

Case #2: Cleavage

Fashion #Fail

We spoke a little on breast in the first case but I would like to go into a little more depth.  Cleavage can be good and bad.  Nothing wrong with showing it but some women get carried away.  Tasteful cleavage is when you can see a small portion of the cleavage line and the breast are sitting upright.  Distasteful cleavage is when the whole breast is showing and the only thing were missing is the nipple.  Or was that a nipple (Boomerang) ??? It is also distasteful when you see a lot of the breast but you don’t really see a cleavage line because the breast are sagging down to the waist.  That is the worst!!  But we can speak on proper support at a later date.

Case #3: The pencil skirt

Now this is a look that I love to rock to work but I have seen so many people get this wrong.  Women that are unshapely tiny should stay away from this look.  You see I threw the word “unshapely” in there.  These are the very skinny women that don’t really have any features that stick out.  Their just straight up and down.  Pencil skirts make them look even smaller, which is why for work they should probably stick to slacks and dresses.  Thicker women or women with too much butt should also stay away from the pencil skirt because it just makes it look like the skirt is too small.

Case #4: Doing the Most

I stepped out last night so this case is fresh on the brain.  I saw so many trends that should not have been put together.  Some folks just get carried away.

For instance, fingerless gloves are in, which is a cute look.  But let’s not throw on the glove with a whole bunch of bangles.  It takes away from the glove.  You really don’t have to wear anything on the wrist at all but if you choose to do so, then keep it simple.  Sequins is also another trend making it’s way through the fall/winter.  The sequins item should be the main focal point of the outfit due to it being so bold.  Everything else should be made simple.  For instance, the sequin legging should be paired with a more simple/solid top and then possibly a blazer…CUTE!  Please don’t put on a bottom and top that are both made of sequins.  It’s just too much.  Patterned tights have made their way back to the spotlight over the last few years.  I love them!  Especially a nice thick pair.  But please let’s not go overboard with the patterns.  I’ve seen grown women with star and polka dot tights on.  Let’s leave that for our youth.

*An extra piece of fashion advice for the winter-The tight should match the shoe!

Now these are only a few cases that I’ve noticed this season but there are a lot more.

What fashion #fails have you noticed in your city?

#1 Pinky :

You hit the nail on the head wit this one girl! I thought I was the only one that browsed through party pics haha! One other thing, I love leggings, but they should not be worn as a stand alone item. I can’t stand when chicks wear leggins with a fitted top, so NOT classy ugggh! Leggings look really cute when layered or worn with a blazer, as you stated. I like this post :)
