Currently Playing: Redemption Song

I’ve been keeping up with the latest news and specials surrounding Haiti and my thoughts and prayers are still with those people. Yesterday, on Oprah’s Haiti special Rihanna performed Bob Marley’s Redemption Song. There was so much talk about how terrible the performance was I had to view the clip myself since I refuse to actually watch the Oprah show. Oprah asked Rihanna why she chose Redemption Song and she said: ” it was one of her favorite songs, she always listens to it when her back is against the wall.” She added: “she  felt like the people of Haiti needed to hear it.” I won’t say anything about her performance or singing abilities but I did pay close attention to the lyrics. One line in particular caught my attention:

Some say it’s just a part of it: We’ve got to fulfill the book

Since I do believe we are living in the last days, could this earthquake be a “part” to “fulfilling the book”?

“For nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom: and there shall be famines, and pestilences, and earthquakes, in divers places.” {Matthew 24:7}

“For nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. And there will be earthquakes in various places, and there will be famines and troubles. These are the beginnings of sorrows “{Mark 13:8}

“And there will be great earthquakes in various places, and famines and pestilences; and there will be fearful sights and great signs from heaven”  {Luke 21:11}

 Just something to think about….

Song: Redemption Song

Artist: Bob Marley

Album: Uprising released 1980

It is important to know that Bob Marley was apart of the Rastafarian religion and he was also a Rastafarian Profit and most of his songs were worship songs. Rastafarians worship Haile Selassie as their Jesus. So this “book” that he is talking about does not refer to the holy bible, because Bob Marley does not believe in the holy bible. And lets not mention Rihanna, a satan worshipper, singing a song about redemption! ( I recommend that you watch the Truth Beyond Hip Hop documentary by G. Craige Lewis parts 1-5). As for fulfilling the book, Yes I agree to that. My favorite preacher, John MacArthur Jr, shed a lot of light on natural disasters (paticularly Hurricane Katrina) He mentioned that it is God showing mercy on them. It is a wake up call to the survivors to turn away from false religions to faith in Jesus Christ, and God is giving them an opportunity to do so. A statistic on CNN stated that Haiti was 80% Roman Catholic, which means that at least 80%, if not more, of the people who died are going to hell, because catholicism is a false religion. I’ve also heard that voodoo was practiced in Haiti. I think the prayer for Haiti does not need to be that peoples lives are spared or that they can lead normal lives again, because they can have all this and at the end of the day they will still not be saved. Therefore, I think the prayer for Haiti needs to be asking for evangelists and that their souls are saved.

#2 Total Life Prosperity :

Thank you for your insight! I am not a Bob Marley fan, neither was I suggesting that he was a Christian…the lyrics of the song caught my attention and I found the choice of song to be quite interesting considering the situation. Neither one of us has the authority to judge if Rihanna is truly a “satan worshipper” or not but I understand the conclusions you are making and I respect your opinion. From one believer to another, I warn that as Christians we are given the charge to spread the gospel of Jesus Christ but we have to be careful that we present our information without offense and in a loving way without coming off judgemental. However, I do agree with your statement about the prayer for Haiti should be for salvation through Jesus. Since I know GOD to be a JUST GOD, everyone will have their chance to confess Jesus as Lord. Again thank you for your comment. I will check out the link to John’s sermons…and by the way I watched the truth behind hip hop DVD a few years back. :)
