Life in the District: Busboys & PoetsI’ve been in the DC area almost 2 years and I’m finally getting around to sharing my experiences at Busboys & Poets. I heard so much about the place and I passed it all the time but for some reason I wasn’t pressed to go. I guess I thought it was somewhat overrated but I have to admit that it lived up to the hype. I’ve visited the 14th and V location on Saturday afternoons. Besides the long wait times the food was delicious and somewhat cheap. $10-$13 for an entree and $5 Mimosas! and these aren’t your average watered down Mimosas. If I had more than 3 I would have been tipsy walking down U Street! LOL I hear the open mic nights are LIVE! One night I’m going to attend Nine On The Ninth; a monthly poetry series that falls on every 9th day of the month at 9pm.
I highly recommend Busboys & Poets as a must “thing to do” in DC!
Busboys and Poets is a restaurant, bookstore, fair trade market and gathering place where people can discuss issues of social justice and peace. Named after American poet Langston Hughes, who worked as a busboy at the Wardman Park Hotel in the 1930s, Busboys and Poets was established in 2005 by owner Anas “Andy” Shallal, an Iraqi-American artist, activist and restaurateur. Busboys and Poets creates an environment where shared conversations over food and drink allow the progressive, artistic and literary communities to dialogue, educate and interact.
Here are some pics I took on my blackberry:
