So I got a call this afternoon about the large Jesus statue along Interstate 75 being destroyed following an apparent lightning strike during a thunderstorm late Monday night. I couldn’t believe what I was hearing. I’ve attended Solid Rock Church and have witnessed the statue first hand and the King of King’s statue humongous! I’ve never seen anything like it in life! The pictures don’t really do it any justice. Hearing this statue was hit by lightening and burned completely was something my eyes weren’t prepared to see. I don’t know what to make of this so I’ll just let the pictures do the talking…

This photo was taken by Tiffani West-May, of Fairborn, who was on her way home from Cincinnati on Monday June 14, 2010. The photo was shot at 11:20 p.m. The large Jesus statue, iconic to I-75, was destroyed following an apparent lightning strike during a thunderstorm late Monday night.

The bible clearly talks about how God did not like statues, because the people would worship them, and the statues would become their idols. In reference, to the statue that burned, he says it holds no meaning as to something going on at that congregation, because it is just that a “statue,” an attraction for people. To think otherwise can fall under religious thinking. The definition of the church is the body of Christ, in dwelt by God through the Holy Spirit, to whom God works in the world, and is made known to the world. The local fellowship is Solid Rock, which is a community of redeemed believers in Christ, who are a part of the universal church. Who for the purpose of establishing themselves in what they believe, surrender their bodies (living sacrifices) to be able to evangelize their community and take the gospel (Jesus) to the ends of the earth. How many people passed the statue worshipping God, but were far from him? God is spiritual and connects with people spiritually.

And the Lord said, Forasmuch as this people draw near Me with their mouth and honor Me with their lips but remove their hearts and minds far from Me, and their fear and reverence for Me are a commandment of men that is learned by repetition [without any thought as to the meaning] Isaiah 29:13 Amplified Version

McDonald’s is currently airing  a ”gay friendly” commercial  in France. I’m not sure what this commercial has to do with Big Macs and french fries as there is no mention of the food. It seems as if McDonald’s created the ad only toward acceptance of homosexual lifestyles.

In the ad, a teenage boy sits in a McDonald’s booth with his father and has a typical father-son interaction. The two look at the son’s class picture and the father goes on to tell him how much he looks like him when he was younger and how much of a ladies’ man he was.  While looking at his class Dad then looks at the class picture and remarks that “it’s too bad” that his son’s class is all boys. The son can only smile. The point suggest that the son is gay and tagline then reads “Come as You Are” in French. I’m sure anti-gay/homosexual organizations will be protesting if the commercial makes it to the states.

Looking back at the age of 80, Ms. Horne said:

Yesterday here in DC there were several memorial services held in honor of civil rights icon Dorothy Height.  She was laid to rest at the National Cathedral where President Obama gave the eulogy.

The passionate activist was on the podium when Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., delivered his  “I Have a Dream,” speech at the March on Washington in 1963. Height was the president of the National Council of Negro Women (NCNW) in 1957 until 1997. She still remained chairman of the organization.

There is something very touching about this photo of President Obama wiping away tears during her funeral service. President Obama said Dr. Height was a constant presence at the White House, having visited 21 times since he took office. “We came to love her as so many loved her,”

At the age of 98 she was still FAB!

Honestly, I’m tired of this debate that successful Black women can’t find a good man! It’s getting played out but with the media hype around the issue it is a harsh reality that some (not all) successful Black women face.

According to a recent Yale study, 43% of African-American women over the age of 16 have yet to be married, compared to only 23% of white women. There’s also a gap in numbers. The 2000 U.S. Census counted 1.8 million more African-American women than Black men. The statistics are so overwhelming that Sherri Shepherd, co-host of “The View” and author of “Permission Slips” headlined a panel of successful and single black men and women to debate the issue in the “Nightline Face-Off”: Why Can’t a Successful Black Woman Find a Man?

The debate took place at the Porter Sanford Center for the Performing Arts in Atlanta, by co-moderators Vicki Mabrey and Steve Harvey- relationship commentator and author of “Act Like a Lady, Think Like a Man.” A self proclaimed expert. Steve Harvey believes: “I’m an expert on the mindset of the male species (ROLLING EYES)

Joining Shepherd on the female side was Jacque Reid, star of VH1′s “Let’s Talk About Pep” (also known as the “Black version of Sex and the City”) Author of the Conversation: How Black Men and Women Can Build Loving, Trusting Relationships, Hill Harper and NPR contributor Jimi Izrael host the males side. Izrael is author of “The Denzel Principal,” a controversial book that says black women are searching for a prototypical man who only exists in their imaginations. Read the full article

hmmmm sideye….”What makes all these people relationship experts? ” I have strong opinions about this issue but I’ll save them for another time. What I will say is, we can debate and discuss relationships ALL day long until we are blue in the face but until you depend on GOD to bring you a mate, it won’t work. PERIOD!

What a great way to end the work with the release of the Sex and the City 2 extended trailer! The internet (especially Twitter-or maybe just my timeline) has been going  absolutely nuts over this trailer!!!

Even though it opened at #2 in the box office this weekend, Tyler Perry’s highly anticipated sequel- Why Did I Get Married Too  has received very mixed reviews. I went to see the movie on its opening day and was quite shocked with the crowd. I caught a matinee show and arrived 20 minutes early and to my surprise the theatre wasn’t packed at all. It might be because I went to a theatre in a predominately White neighborhood on Good Friday #dontjudgeme

By now I’m sure you’ve read some of the reviews. If not here are a few:

If you can’t tell in my previous posts, I hate trying to be all “deep” and analytical about worldly things so let me make this quick:

• The timing between the first movie and this sequel seemed a bit “off”
• The opening scenes acting was very questionable
• The characters were more exaggerated than the first
• Angela (Tasha Smith) was more of a loud drama queen than the first (like that could be possible)
• Marital issues among the 4 couples were underdeveloped
• I laughed because some parts were funny while others were like c’mon son, for real?!
• I think he was going for the shock factor and the plot twists were very unpredictable…Not the typical TP movie I expected
• I didn’t like the ending at all but I definitely think there will be a part 3

People (and in this case Blacks especially) have been extremely critical of this movie along with the rest of his work. I don’t think people give him his credit nor do they respect the art or the craft of him being a film maker. No other Black film maker, not even Spike Lee hating a$$ has been able to accomplish what he has. People discredit him, call his movies and TV shows “coonery at its finest” because he plays a character such as Madea. Plenty of other Black male actors have played the roles of women and they didn’t get criticized.  (Martin, Eddie Murphy, Arsenio Hall, Wesley Snipes, just to name a few) There are plenty of  “Madea’s” in Black neighborhoods and families! People say it’s an embarrassment to the Black community but I say embarrassing for whom? Personally I don’t feel his films are representative of the Black community as a whole so I’m not embarrassed one bit.  I understand his films and characters are based on real people and experiences so I can totally relate. Why are ”we” so ashamed of reality? Who cares what White people and/or other races think. They have stereotypes of their own as well…Must I mention them? Never heard of: Poor White Trash, Trailer Park Trash, Fresh off the boat, etc.

I didn’t mean to turn this post into a defense for Tyler Perry but I think we need to back off of him. So what if he’s gay! What difference does it make?! Hollywood loves the gay men! They are everywhere! (btw I am against homosexuality)  But if that’s the lifestyle who chooses to live , who am I to judge him??? At the end of the day it’s just a movie. I just wonder what people expected from him? It is Tyler Perry…(Take it how you want) Even the best film maker couldn’t possibly address every issue about marriage in one movie. I don’t understand why people want things to be sooo deep all the time? In all honestly it aint that serious! or at least for me it’s not.

Marriage has become a joke to society so you can’t expect a movie to uphold the sanity of marriage and people actually go support it. We don’t want to see a movie about walking in destiny and purpose with the man or woman God created especially for you. That’s not entertaining to most. Take it for what its worth…entertainment purposes only. Some people will be entertained and others won’t. If you haven’t seen the film I’d say go see it and make your own conclusions.

 Overall I give the film a B-
