Solid Rock Church’s King of Kings monument struck by lightning

So I got a call this afternoon about the large Jesus statue along Interstate 75 being destroyed following an apparent lightning strike during a thunderstorm late Monday night. I couldn’t believe what I was hearing. I’ve attended Solid Rock Church and have witnessed the statue first hand and the King of King’s statue humongous! I’ve never seen anything like it in life! The pictures don’t really do it any justice. Hearing this statue was hit by lightening and burned completely was something my eyes weren’t prepared to see. I don’t know what to make of this so I’ll just let the pictures do the talking…

This photo was taken by Tiffani West-May, of Fairborn, who was on her way home from Cincinnati on Monday June 14, 2010. The photo was shot at 11:20 p.m. The large Jesus statue, iconic to I-75, was destroyed following an apparent lightning strike during a thunderstorm late Monday night.

The bible clearly talks about how God did not like statues, because the people would worship them, and the statues would become their idols. In reference, to the statue that burned, he says it holds no meaning as to something going on at that congregation, because it is just that a “statue,” an attraction for people. To think otherwise can fall under religious thinking. The definition of the church is the body of Christ, in dwelt by God through the Holy Spirit, to whom God works in the world, and is made known to the world. The local fellowship is Solid Rock, which is a community of redeemed believers in Christ, who are a part of the universal church. Who for the purpose of establishing themselves in what they believe, surrender their bodies (living sacrifices) to be able to evangelize their community and take the gospel (Jesus) to the ends of the earth. How many people passed the statue worshipping God, but were far from him? God is spiritual and connects with people spiritually.

And the Lord said, Forasmuch as this people draw near Me with their mouth and honor Me with their lips but remove their hearts and minds far from Me, and their fear and reverence for Me are a commandment of men that is learned by repetition [without any thought as to the meaning] Isaiah 29:13 Amplified Version

McDonald’s wants you to come as you are.

McDonald’s is currently airing  a ”gay friendly” commercial  in France. I’m not sure what this commercial has to do with Big Macs and french fries as there is no mention of the food. It seems as if McDonald’s created the ad only toward acceptance of homosexual lifestyles.

In the ad, a teenage boy sits in a McDonald’s booth with his father and has a typical father-son interaction. The two look at the son’s class picture and the father goes on to tell him how much he looks like him when he was younger and how much of a ladies’ man he was.  While looking at his class Dad then looks at the class picture and remarks that “it’s too bad” that his son’s class is all boys. The son can only smile. The point suggest that the son is gay and tagline then reads “Come as You Are” in French. I’m sure anti-gay/homosexual organizations will be protesting if the commercial makes it to the states.

You hear the roars of laughter? Maybe its just me but I’m not laughing!  Jokes or not, but all Black men do not cuss and carry guns in their pants. Yes its 2010 and racism is alive and well! SMH

Sex and the City 2 Movie Review + pics from DC premiere events

I’m back from my amazing birthday vacay in Cabo San Lucas Mexico!!!! After I rested, I went to check out Sex and the City 2 last night.  I know I am almost a week late with posting but I had to write something about the film. I purposely didn’t read any reviews or ask any girlfriends about the film because I wanted to be excited!

Well the jury is still out on my excitement for part 2. I had such high expectations based on part 1 and I don’t think part 2 lived up to its hype.  One thing that was undeniable are  the glamorous outfits the ladies were adorned with throughout the film. Usually Carrie does IT for me but this time Miranda gets my vote for Best Dressed.

I never try to be all “deep” when talking about movies so I’ll keep it short and to the point and highlight the things I liked about the film. Hands down the best part was Liza Minelli’s Single Ladies rendition. Pure comedy…I’m sure Beyonce is proud as she collects her checks!!!

I did like how the film showed the real emotions and insecurities that women face balancing their careers, motherhood, and relationships. Being a mommy is a full time job that can be overwhelming. Sometimes I don’t think men (or women) fully understand it.

I could have done without the gay wedding scenes. Its like they made a mockery out of marriage. And this was all before Carrie and BIG came up with their dumb idea for keeping the sparkle in their marriage. I guess the writer’s wanted to show what happens after the “I do’s” but it was a piss poor attempt in my opinion. Separating from your mate 2 days out of the week is the most ridiculous thing I’ve ever heard. Carrie’s fears of becoming an old married couple are true feelings that I suppose a wife could go through at some point during a marriage but perfect love, casts out all fear. I wont comment any further on that…its just a movie.

With all of the great eye candy, I wonder does the film place unnecessary pressure on women to think they have to live such an extravagant lifestyle?  There’s much more to life besides material things. Here at TotalLifeProsperityBlog I try to stress the importance that prosperity includes more than just money and material things…its a lifestyle! Wholeness in every area of life. In my opinion the producers portray an unrealistic, glamorous lifestyle, that is almost impossible for the average woman to acheive. I didn’t say it was impossible I said almost. But again I realize it’s just a movie…

Call me ignorant but am I the only one that didn’t know the words to that song they sang at Karaoke???

I definitely noticed there was a lack of color in part 1 and again in part 2 of the film. Jennifer Hudson’s role in part 1 really doesn’t count for much since she played the poor assistant, who was so happy to get her very own Louis Vuitton bag…Speaking of which, the only reason Jennifer Hudson was cast in that film was because she was coming off her Oscar buzz from her role as Effie White in Dreamgirls. Anyway, earlier today I came across an interesting blog article. Does Sex and the City Hate Brown people? The author makes some shockingly sad, but very valid points about the lack of color in the film and in the previous hit television series. She draws strong conclusions about the “black television reality”

 In our world, the options are to: (1)  ignore the fact that we are not adequately or realistically portrayed in Hollywood by Whites or Blacks (Thanks, Tyler Perry!);  or (2) turn off the T.V. unless Shonda Rhimes wrote it, and don’t watch movies unless Spike Lee made it. That’s just 21st Century America.

So, to answer the question posed by the title, I don’t know if Sex and the City hates us and our brown cousins.  What is obvious, however, is that the franchise is consistently insensitive to minorities and makes dismal attempts to understand our cultures — because we let them.  We still watched the show, copied the fashion, bought the DVDs, had SATC marathons before each movie, and spent hundreds going to the actual premieres, in spite of the fact that we have not been — and likely will never be — realistically portrayed and explored in-depth by this franchise.

When Twitter goes WRONG = #EPICFAIL

I want all my readers to experience Total Life Prosperity and usually I refrain from posting complete nonsense but this is one of the exceptions to the rule! A particular young lady has taken social networking site Twitter a little too serious with her new  “Follow Me” tattoo.

“As Best Week Everpoints out, the tattoo also is pointless, as she doesn’t even have her username on there. Good call again, crazy lady. “

The God in me tells me I must use this opportunity as a teaching tool. I am not judging her because I have tattoos myself (2 to be exact) Maybe she used poor judgement when she made this decision. Unbeknown to my parents, I got my first tattoo of an Ankh at 16 and then my zodiac symbol at 23. (Both are extremely worldly symbols but thank GOD for grace) Now at 26, I think, if  knew then what I know now, I would have reconsidered my decisions and never got any tattoos period.

In Memory of Lena Horne

Looking back at the age of 80, Ms. Horne said:

“My identity is very clear to me now. I am a black woman. I’m free. I no longer have to be a ‘credit.’ I don’t have to be a symbol to anybody; I don’t have to be a first to anybody. In Memory of Dorothy Height

Yesterday here in DC there were several memorial services held in honor of civil rights icon Dorothy Height.  She was laid to rest at the National Cathedral where President Obama gave the eulogy.

The passionate activist was on the podium when Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., delivered his  “I Have a Dream,” speech at the March on Washington in 1963. Height was the president of the National Council of Negro Women (NCNW) in 1957 until 1997. She still remained chairman of the organization.

There is something very touching about this photo of President Obama wiping away tears during her funeral service. President Obama said Dr. Height was a constant presence at the White House, having visited 21 times since he took office. “We came to love her as so many loved her,”

At the age of 98 she was still FAB!

Sheila Johnson, founder of Black Entertainment Network (BET) is using her riches from launching BET to raise awareness of the capital’s AIDS crisis with a new documentary. The billionaire talks to Lloyd Grove about the pandemic, why she’s “ashamed” of BET now, and how politics disillusioned her.

” Don’t even get me started,” says the 60-year-old Johnson, who has since divorced and remarried (charmingly enough, to the Virginia circuit court judge who presided over her divorce). “I don’t watch it. I suggest to my kids [a 20-something daughter and a college-age son] that they don’t watch it… I’m ashamed of it, if you want to know the truth.”

Johnson—who was at the Tribeca Film Festival this week for the premiere of The Other City, a searing, but ultimately hopeful documentary she produced about the AIDS epidemic in Washington, D.C.—says BET is making matters worse, and potentially contributing to the spread of AIDS, by promoting promiscuous, unprotected sex in raunchy late-night rap videos.

It wasn’t always that way. “When we started BET, it was going to be the Ebony magazine on television,” Johnson tells me. “We had public affairs programming. We had news… I had a show called Teen Summit, we had a large variety of programming, but the problem is that then the video revolution started up… And then something started happening, and I didn’t like it all. And I remember during those days we would sit up and watch these videos and decide which ones were going on and which ones were not. We got a lot of backlash from recording artists…and we had to start showing them. I didn’t like the way women were being portrayed in these videos.”

Johnson says she no longer has any connection with BET. “I just really wish—and not just BET but a lot of television programming—that they would stop lowering the bar so far just so they can get eyeballs to the screen,” she says. “I know they think that’s what’s going to keep programming on the air; that’s what’s going to sell advertising. But there has got to be some responsibility. Somebody has got to take this over. Because with all the studies that are out there, this is contributing to an atmosphere of free sex, ‘I don’t have to protect myself anymore.”

“It is pandemic, and now that the movie has come out we’re starting to hear from other cities that they’re having the same problems. Our goal is to take this movie across the country so that other cities start looking at themselves a little harder… Society and government really believe this problem has gone away. People don’t know that this disease is still around.”

Johnson says she was gripped by HIV as a subject “because it is disproportionately affecting women. There are the problems of gender-based violence, and women giving birth to babies and losing their children at a rapid rate because they have AIDS. We’ve got the same problems right here in the District of Columbia as they do in Africa. The sexy thing to do is to be able to travel afar and hold babies in our arms. [Hello, Madonna and Angelina Jolie!] I’m not demeaning that at all, but we have got our own problems, I just decided we need to come home and focus on our problems, because they’re getting worse here in our own country.”
